Cabarrus College Allied Health Degrees Offer Career Education Close to Home

Cabarrus College of Health Sciences has been a defining presence in the community for 81 years, educating nurses that have cared for generations of Cabarrus County residents.

But Cabarrus College is so much more than a nursing school. And it keeps evolving.

Cabarrus College is a robust health sciences college that offers 12 allied health degrees in addition to its five nursing degrees. In just two years, students who enroll at Cabarrus College can enjoy a prosperous, rewarding career in fields like occupational therapy assisting, life sciences, medical assisting and surgical technology. Or with a little more time investment, they can earn degrees in fields including respiratory therapy, biomedical sciences or community health and wellness.

“Cabarrus College offers unmatched, affordable health career education to students right here in our community,” said college President Cam Cruickshank, PhD. “Our degrees set students up for success in healthcare with quality instruction and unrivaled clinical experience while keeping their costs low.”

In addition to its allied health degrees for first-year students, Cabarrus College offers bachelor’s degree completion and master’s degree programs in allied health fields like medical imaging, health sciences leadership and development and occupational therapy. The college also plans to add a bachelor’s completion degree in community paramedicine, a burgeoning field that prepares certified paramedics to improve lives and long-term health through consistent in-home care.

“Cabarrus College continues to grow and evolve, staying on the leading edge of healthcare education,” said Cruickshank. The college is now part of a new academic Learning Health System within Advocate Health, with Wake Forest University School of Medicine as its academic core. (Atrium Health, which owns the college, recently combined with Advocate Aurora Health to become Advocate Health.)

“We’re incredibly fortunate to be part of this robust enterprise-wide system that accelerates innovation and provides a richer learning experience for our students,” said Cruickshank. “Collaborating with Wake Forest University School of Medicine exposes our students to ideas and knowledge that enhance their healthcare education, both in the classroom and in clinical settings.”
