The Town of Harrisburg is accepting applications for its second Citizens Academy. The free course will be held on Tuesday evenings in September and October for seven weeks and will conclude with a graduation recognition at the November 12 Town Council meeting. The Citizens Academy provides Harrisburg residents and business owners with an opportunity to learn about the structure and function of local government.
The sessions, held 6-8 p.m., will be in various locations throughout Harrisburg, including the old Post Office, Town Hall and the Public Works facility. Department managers will give presentations and participants will be able to express their concerns, ask questions and gain a better understanding of what each department does.
There is a limited number of seats available for the Academy and participants will be selected based on an application process. To apply, you must be a Harrisburg resident or business owner and at least 18 years old. Those who are accepted into the program must attend one Council meeting and 75 percent of the Academy sessions.
