The Cabarrus Chamber recently welcomed Peek Into A New Horizon Next Gen (Peek Next Gen) to the community with a celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony. This momentous occasion marked the grand opening of an organization dedicated to expanding Out-of-School Time (OST) programs and enrichment opportunities for children, youth, and young adults in Cabarrus and Mecklenburg County, as well as the surrounding areas.
At the heart of this initiative is Tony Peek, a youth advocate and the founder and CEO of Peek Next Gen. A proud father, husband, and community leader, Tony is known for his unwavering dedication to guiding youth through life's toughest challenges. His approach is grounded in honesty, toughness, and unconditional support, teaching young people that success comes from hard work, resilience, and facing obstacles head-on.
Tony’s journey to mentorship was shaped by grit and determination. While serving time in the Department of Corrections, he completed his FAFSA and made a commitment to pursue higher education. Through relentless effort, he earned an Associate’s degree in Applied Science (2013), an Associate of Arts from Stanly Community College (2015), and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (2017). Tony is also a proud member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
For over a decade, Tony has worked with marginalized youth, drawing from his own life experiences to teach valuable lessons in accountability, empowerment, and resilience. His mentoring encourages young people to think critically, embrace challenges, and take ownership of their success. Known for his direct approach, Tony instills the belief that success is earned, not given, and champions education, hard work, and mentorship as essential tools for growth.
Peek Into A New Horizon Next Gen recognizes the urgent need for accessible, high-quality OST programs, particularly for historically vulnerable and structurally marginalized communities. Their mission is to bridge these gaps by providing STREAM-centered education, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities that foster learning and development beyond the classroom. By incorporating Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into their programs, the organization aims to enhance critical thinking skills, support overall well-being, and create a safe, nurturing environment for all participants.
The organization partners with local schools, churches, businesses, and volunteers to provide mentorship, tutoring, and enrichment activities. Through these collaborations, Peek Into A New Horizon Next Gen works to reduce risky behaviors, improve academic outcomes, and promote positive relationships. Their programs include arts and crafts, community service projects, outings, and other activities designed to engage and empower young individuals.
The Cabarrus Chamber recognizes the significant role Peek Into A New Horizon Next Gen plays in narrowing the opportunity and achievement gaps within our community. Their efforts contribute to improving graduation rates, reducing incarceration rates, and fostering a future where all children have the resources and support they need to succeed.
The grand opening and ribbon cutting event brought together community members, leaders, and supporters to celebrate this exciting addition to Cabarrus County.
