1401 Lane Street | Kannapolis, NC 28083Breathe. | A Center for Wellness opened in 2014, but has recently moved from their original location in Concord into their new office on Lane Street in Kannapolis. The company’s mission is to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for people to begin their healing process. They take a holistic approach when working with clients, combining the mind, body, and spirit in counseling. Breathe. works with adults around a wide assortment of issues and concerns, including addiction, trauma, and other life challenges. Their services include addictions counseling, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), DWI assessments, DWI groups, and recovery events.
The company’s owner, Alanna Brewton, is a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, Registered Yoga Instructor and Certified Heartmath Trainer. She has more than 20 years of experience working in the addictions field and spent 12 years working for Carolinas Healthcare System alongside Dr. George Raad in their medical detoxification program before transitioning to the Intensive Outpatient program. The reason she started her business was because of her upbringing in an alcoholic home and then losing a family member to deinstitutionalization. She would eventually feel her calling to open her own business so she can provide a space where people feel welcome and not judged as they heal. Alanna was recently named an expert in the field by the North Carolina Board of Professional Counselors and has been accepted into the PhD Developmental Psychology Program at Capella University.
Breathe. is different from most treatment centers as there tends to be a very separated approach to client care that can come off as impersonal at times. These centers can make clients feel like a number instead of a person and they find it hard to make a genuine connection with their counselors. Breathe. takes a different approach as they understand that addiction can be overwhelming and can cause clients to lose all hope. They provide empathy and compassion so that clients understand that they are not alone.
Alanna is also the Founder of Grace & Sobrie-Tea Corporation, a non-profit organization for people in recovery. They believe that recovery from addiction and/or mental illness should be celebrated daily. Grace & Sobrie-Tea provides an alcohol-free environment for people in recovery to enjoy delicious baked goods, coffee, tea, live music, games, a little library, and a meditation room. They support local small businesses by featuring different bakeries each month and also provide live music from local artists.
Breathe. is a new member of The Chamber and hopes to use their membership to connect with others and create a community to support one another. The Chamber held a ribbon cutting event to celebrate Breathe.’s recent move to 1401 Lane Street in Kannapolis.
