5 Tips for Participating in the Chamber Member Facebook Group
January 24, 2022
- When participating in the Facebook group, consider it as business casual…meaning people want to get to know YOU as a person, not as a salesperson. People do business with people they know, like, and trust, so don’t be afraid to share things about yourself like you would in a conversation at a Business After Hours. Keep in mind, this is not the place to post your vacation photos! But it is a place for people to get to know you, why you love your job and your company, and of course the Chamber! There will also be plenty of opportunities for you to post about your business too, but find the balance between the two.
- "It's not all about you!" Participating in a Facebook group is not just about posting your content, just like a conversation should not be dominated by talking solely about yourself. Support your group members by commenting on their posts or comments. There will often be opportunities for you to share your professional advice, but you can also provide value by just offering encouragement to a fellow business. These can often lead to offline follow-ups that build deeper relationships and future business.
- Post valuable content that showcases unique opportunities or professional knowledge. You can post content in the Facebook group at any time, not just when the Chamber offers prompts. Our members promote events, announce when they are hiring, and share informative articles. Take advantage of having a captive audience for your content. But keep in mind, your content will resonate more with people who have gotten to know you versus someone who just posts things occasionally and doesn’t interact with other content.
- Use visual content as much as possible. A compelling photo and a short write-up can be as valuable as a full blog article if you don’t have time to create that kind of content. Sharing a great video is also an option, but be sure to offer your insight on why this is valuable to fellow chamber members so they know it is worth their time.
- Connect on LinkedIn, share a link to a page on your website, and/or suggest joining your email list. Just like in-person networking, virtual communication is also a first or early connection. But remember to offer ways for people to learn more about you and your business. Keep in mind that the timing of those invitations will be more effective after you have engaged for a while and people start to get to know you.
Join the Facebook group or invite one of your employees to join so you can network when it's most convenient for you, no matter the day, time, or weather!
